2008

Leggett's Creek Bassmasters Club is entered phase three of their fish habitat management project for Prompton Dam, Wayne County.

On Saturday, June 7, 2008, the members of the Leggett's Creek Bassmasters Club, The Boy Scouts and Dave Kaneski, PA WCO will once again be deploying 15 Pennsylvania Porcupine Jr. Crib structures at already predetermined locations throughout the lake.  We also anticipate having media coverage from the The Scranton Times - Tribune, as well as, WNEP's Pennsylvania Outdoor Life.

The purpose of this project is to address the habitat needs of Prompton Lake as they relate to its classification, fish species diversity and abundance angler use.  This project is aimed at long-term and long-lasting artificial habitats that fit the reservoir's existing native habitats.

This three year plan provides the Adopt-a-Lake cooperator an opportunity to construct and place a total of 40 artificial habitat structures in Prompton Dam at a rate of 13 per year of which 10 "black bass" nesting structures and 15 cribs have already been deployed since 2006 (see pictures on our website).

To help offset the cost of this project, the members of the Leggett's Creek Bassmasters Club are running three open pickerel tournaments in 2008.  Here are the dates and locations:
Sunday, May 17, 2008 - Harvey's Lake
Sunday, May 25, 2008 - Lake Henry
Sunday, June 1, 2008   - Prompton Dam
All proceeds raised from these events (15%) will be used to purchase the needed materials in order to build these structures.  All labor is done through volunteerism.

The Leggett's Creek Bassmasters Club will continue their conservation efforts at Prompton Dam and we've secured approval for an additional three years.  We will survey the lake on July 25th and look to target the lake's largemouth population.

If you are interested in making a donation, participating in one or all of the fishing events or would like to assist in building the structures, please contact our Conservation Director, Fred Lewis, at freddi1997@yahoo.com

2006 Crib project @ Prompton Dam

We are very pleased to report that Saturday's conversation project was a HUGE success.  At this time, I would like to share with you our highlights:

  • We had 7 Boy Scouts from Troop 1 who assisted in building the structures.
  • We had 7 club members participate
  • We had 2 members from another club participate
  • We had several parents of the Boy Scouts assist in building the structures
  • We had 2 Friends of Dana DeLeo participate, and
  • David Kaneski, WCO  for Wayne County in attendance for the entire day.
To help fund our conservation project, the Leggett's Creek Bassmasters Club will be hold three open pickerel tournaments (in 2006 and 2007) and where 15% of the proceeds will be used to purchase the necessary materials.

Our conservation goal is always to release every fish caught in healthy condition and having a Zero (0) bass mortality rate.
